Gaitate Institute has 40 year old roots, and these began with the founder’s entrepreneurial desire during his primary school days. Perhaps this is because both his parents were in business, and they sought the best life for their children.
He recalls that at age 12, he was selling sweets at school, in business, making money, making good profits.
By the time he was at high school in the North West Province, South Africa, he says
“I was in the Import Business as I would purchase books from publishers in Johannesburg, and sell these to my fellow school mates”
Obakeng further recalls:
“It was just natural for me when my English teacher shared in class that Accountants make a lot of money, that I sought to be an Accountant. I made applications in my final year at high school to be accepted as a Trainee as an Accountant the very next year. So in 1985, I started my first year as a trainee Accountant”
Obakeng passionately recalls:
“OOOOOOoooooooohhhhhhh….. my first salary as a trainee accountant was about R450 a month, and it felt like a MILLION RANDS.
I was Rich, Indeed My teacher was right. Accountants Make a lot of money.
I have not made so much money a month in my business. I recall my best month in business was revenue of R170 during July/August of 1984, and I discontinued the business to focus on the studies then.”
“During my training that ended in January 1991, I was exposed to big businesses that were making humongous amounts of money, compared to by businesses when I was still at school. I also read up on business owners behind these great enterprises.
My conclusion from my exposure to books and entrepreneurs was that anyone can actually be a great business owner, and make millions and billions for themselves.
It was during these years that I decided to teach others about business, and how they can be successful.
After about 20 years, from this decision, and after lots of business ventures, some successful, some that failed, and after many talks to groups of people in seminars, churches, and presentations, and community halls, my first book was published in 2010, Be a Billionaire
One of my early companies was Billionaire’s Academy Business Training, and its purpose was to help those that so desired, to train them to billionairehood.
I found that the time was not right for the message at that time. As most people that I talked to, had the idea that being a billionaire is not good, and rather that it is selfish and self-serving.
In my quest to reach the audience, I toned down, and Millionaire’s Academy was formed.
I discovered, to my horror, also that the terminology of “Millionaire” was not so well received.
In 2009, I was part of the team that undertook a Graduate Development Programme at TUT in Pretoria, and I was hopeful that the “Young Minds” will be receptive to the Millionaire and Billionaire Ideology.
I believed in my heart that religion and societal consciousness has not affected that much and that they would be open to taking the journey with Billionaire’s Academy, but this was not the case.
The 2010 publication of Be a Billionaire was an attempt to reach the larger audience. Looking back, however, I realize that I needed partners who were strong in areas of personality and business, where I was not so strong.”
